70th Birthday Photography at The Worsley Arms Hotel in Hovingham, North Yorkshire.
There’s something so special about photographing milestone birthdays. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a wonderful 70th birthday celebration at the Worsley Arms Hotel in Hovingham, set in the Howardian Hills in Yorkshire, it was such a beautiful drive over to the shoot. Family from 3 generations had gathered from across the country to be together and celebrate in the sunshine, the children ran around the large garden (getting muddy in their Sunday best of course!) whilst the adults gathered round a table and ordered Champagne.
I usually arrive around 15 minutes early to an event photography shoot so that i can get familiar with the location and most importantly introduce myself to everyone and answer any questions on the day. Children are always keen to know who i am and what i’m up to and want to play with my cameras (which i always swerve away from)! They also often instantly want to pose for the camera to make sure they don’t miss out on the action so we usually have a bit of fun, which usually ends up in a lot of sillyness!
Group family portraits - the ‘documentary’ way!
Introductions were followed by some relaxed family portraits as the weather was lovely and we didn’t want to miss out on the light. I continued to capture all the in between moments as one particular Uncle had the difficult job of cajoling the children into position which made for some very amusing antics and a lot fun, and we got there in the end!!
Champagne in the sunshine
Once the drinks arrived the family settled down to catch up and toast the birthday boy and I went into people watching mode, observing and capturing moments in the beautiful sunshine…. and the children are off again!
“Nic was absolutely brilliant at capturing our dad’s 70th birthday party :) We only had a small group of 11 people but wanted to have some special photos from the day. Nic was excellent at photographing us unobserved and we never felt like she got in the way. We were able to enjoy our evening all together and she captured some really wonderful family moments :) There are so many beautiful moments that we’ll treasure forever thanks to Nic.
They say you should never work with animals or children and Nic had to deal with them both at our shoot - 1 dog and 3 kids under the age of 6! She was so good at interacting with the children and the photos are simply stunning of them.
