North Yorkshire Family photography, Broughton Sanctuary.

An extended family gathering with an unforgettable Falconer experience in the beautiful grounds of Broughton Hall near Skipton.

Broughton Sanctuary is a beautiful wellness and nature retreat within the 3,000-acre Broughton Hall estate near Skipton in North Yorkshire where this family gathering was taking place. I’m so glad I arrived early as I was immediately lost in the vast grounds, having to be rescued by a member of staff who kindly directed me to the right location, in good time thankfully.

I’d been asked to photograph an extended family get together from far and wide; New Zealand, to Spain, to the UK - who all got together on this day to have a Falconer experience in the beautiful grounds at Broughton Hall. It was wonderful to see both adults and children captivated by a range birds of prey including owls, falcons and a red kite (which were almost extinct not so long ago) and join in the experience together.

A true highlight of the day was when the Falconer asked all the children to lie on the floor in a line while Ivan the owl flew over their heads (and towards mine) to receive food, he skimmed the top of my head as he flew over - what a thrill! Scroll down to see a few of my favourites from the session and a stop frame video at the end, hope you enjoy!
